No \u00faltimo censo, a popula\u00e7\u00e3o foi estimada em 4.729 pessoas e s\u00f3 na aldeia da Serra do Padeiro, h\u00e1 cerca de 900 pessoas divididas em 180 fam\u00edlias. Os Tupinamb\u00e1 de Oliven\u00e7a t\u00eam uma longa e complexa hist\u00f3ria de luta por seus direitos territoriais. Os l\u00edderes dos Tupinamb\u00e1 s\u00e3o muito ativos politicamente, assim participam constantemente dos debates e reivindicam seus direitos em n\u00edvel nacional e internacional.
